A new species of Trichomycterus (Siluriformes: Trichomycteridae) from lagoa Feia drainage, southeastern Brazil Neotropical Ichthyology
Lima,Sergio M. Q.; Lazzarotto,Henrique; Costa,Wilson J. E. M..
Trichomycterus caipora, new species, is described from rio Macabu basin, lagoa Feia drainage, serra de Macaé, southeastern Brazil. The new species is distinguished from its congeners from southern and southeastern Brazil by the combination of: the presence of nine pectoral-fin rays, caudal fin emarginated and high number of opercular and interorpecular odontodes. Ecological notes are presented and putative phylogenetic relationships and characters shared with congeners are discussed.

Aspectos reprodutivos de Palaemon pandaliformis (Stimpson) (Crustacea, Decapoda, Palaemonidae) no Rio Sahy, Mangaratiba, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil Zoologia
Lima,Giovana Valverde; Oshiro,Lídia Miyako Yoshii.
The reproductive aspects of the freshwater shrimp Palaemon pandaliformis (Stimpson, 1871) were studied from March, 1998 to February, 1999. Monthly, samples were collected with sives, on the river edge, under the edging vegetation or in small pools. At the laboratory, shrimps were sexed and measured in their total lenght, from the tip of the rostrum to the of telson with precision callipters. The ovigerous shrimps were separated and counted for fecundity determination. The eggs diameter was measured with calibrated stereomicroscope. A total of 872 were collected among which, 46% female, 29% male and 25% juvenil. The sex ratio was 1:1.57. Ovigerous females were present during all seasons, but the reproductive peak accurred in Spring. The ovigerous female...

Aspectos reprodutivos de Potimirim glabra (Kingsley) (Crustacea, Decapoda, Atyidae) no Rio Sahy, Mangaratiba, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil Zoologia
Lima,Giovana Valverde; Oshiro,Lídia Miyako Yoshii.
The reproductive aspects of the freshwater shrimp Potimirim glabra (Kingsley, 1878) were studied from September 1997 to February 1999. Monthly, samples were collected with sieves, on the river edge, under the edging vegetation or in small pools. At the laboratory, shrimps were sexed and measured in their total lenght, from the tip of the rostrum to the end of telson with precision callipers. The ovigerous shrimps were separated and counted for fecundity determination. The eggs diameter was measured with calibrated stereomicroscope. A total of 3281 shrimps were collected, among which, 47% male, 46% female (13.4% ovigerous females) and 7% young shrimps. The Sex ratio was 1:1. Ovigerous females were present during all seasons, but the reproductive peak...

Cardumes da sardinha-verdadeira, Sardinella brasiliensis (Steindachner), em águas costeiras do estado do Rio de Janeiro, Brasil Zoologia
Paiva,Melquíades Pinto; Motta,Paulo César Silva da.
This paper deals with the occurrence and schol sizes of the Brazilian-sardine, Sardinella brasiliensis (Steindachner, 1879), in coastal waters of" Rio de Janeiro State (Brazil), during the years 1993-1997. The schools are more frequent and heavier in bay and surroundings of Grande Island; another area, with lesser importance, remains between the Cape of São Tome and surroundings of Cabo Frio, under influence of coastal upwelling. The heavier schools are found in April-June (autumn), soon after lhe reproduction period. The schools swim in surface waters with until 80 meters in depth. but more than 98% of them are restricted to waters until 50 meters; about 41% of schools are found in places of 10 - 20 meters, with clear reduction of their frequencies in...

Helminths of the marine tucuxi, Sotalia fluviatilis (Gervais, 1853) (Cetacea: Delphinidae), in northern Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil BABT
Melo,Osana Prado; Ramos,Renata Maria Arruda; Di Beneditto,Ana Paula Madeira.
The objectives of this work were to reporte the helminths of the marine tucuxi, Sotalia fluviatilis (Cetacea: Delphinidae) in northern Rio de Janeiro State; and to check if the infestation rate varied with the host characteristics (sex and maturity) and year seasons. From 1989 to 2002, 80 marine tucuxis that were by-caught in fisheries were examined and four parasites were recorded: Braunina cordiformis, Anisakis typica, Halocercus brasiliensis and Nasitrema sp. The parasitism in the marine tucuxi corroborated its feeding habits and there were no infestation rate differences between males and females, youngs and adults, as well as between year seasons. This work reports for the first time the occurrence of the genus Nasitrema in the marine tucuxi.

Spatial distribution of palynomorphs in the surface sediments of the Lagoa do Campelo lake, North region of Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil Acta Botanica
Luz,Cynthia Fernandes Pinto da; Barth,Ortrud Monika; Silva,Cleverson Guisan.
Four samples of the surface sediments of the Lagoa do Campelo lake bottom were collected in a transect of 500 m by 500 m from edge to edge, in a northeast/southwest direction, the dominant wind direction in the region. The analysis of pollen grains, fern spores and algae were used to evaluate their spatial deposition and level of deterioration. In total, 58 types of pollen grains were identified, mainly from herbs as Cyperaceae, Poaceae and Typhaceae. Pollen grains occurred in all the analyzed sediments. The area of highest concentration was the northeast side of the lake. The southwest side showed the highest pollen grain and fern spore degradation and mechanical damage, probably as they were carried across the lake by wind-driven currents, confirming the...
